Tradewater scored seven runs in the first inning to cruise to a 9-4 win over Marion Tuesday at Riverside Park. Though the Bobcats (9-13) outscored the rival Pirates 4-2 after that lead-off inning, it was not enough to overcome the fast start by the Pirates (17-7). Cody Crabaugh (4-0) picked up the win for Tradewater in six innings of work. He allowed all of the offense the Bobcats could manage — four runs and six hits. Zac Treece pitched three hitless innings for his second save
Marion starter Justin Stout (1-2) settled down after the seven-run first, but left after four innings taking the loss. He gave up all nine Pirate runs and nine of their 10 hits. But the Bobcats' relief cleaned up nicely, with Justin O'Brien throwing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Kalip Merrill, who was shunned by the all-star selections, went one perfect inning, lowering his league-leading ERA to 1.56.
At the plate, Travis Jankowski went 2-for-4 with an RBI to run his batting average to .540, almost 150 points above the next best hitter in the league. Marion, however, stranded 11 runners.
