Sunday's starter, Clay Thornberry, was released after the 6-1 loss to Owensboro, making way for another lefty on Manager Steve Fowler's pitching staff.
Tory Doerr, a 6-2, 185-pound freshman at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill., is now the newest Bobcat. He joins fellow Wabash Valley players Ryan Rogers, Drew Barrett and Josh Reynolds.
Doerr, who makes his home in Bethalto, Ill, was 1-2 in 19 games with Wabash Valley this spring, recording a 6.14 ERA in 29 1/3 innings of work. He gave up 41 hits and issued 12 bases on balls while striking out 21.
Fowler's staff, which last year featured only one southpaw, is now stacked with five lefties. Mike Rizzuto, an outfielder and another pitcher from the left side, has also been called on to pitch twice this season.
Doerr is the 15th pitcher used by the Bobcats this season.
