Thomas out, Doerr to join pitching staff

Logan "Tex" Thomas, a member of last year's Marion team that was expected to return to the club in the coming days, will not be added to the staff after all.
In Thomas' stead, the Bobcats will be adding another lefty to the squad. Tory Doerr, a 6-2, 185-pound freshman at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill. Doerr makes his home in Bethalto Ill.
Marion teammates Ryan Rogers, Drew Barrett and Josh Reynolds also play college ball at Wabash Valley.
Doerr was 1-2 in 19 games with Wabash Valley this spring, recording a 6.14 ERA in 29 1/3 innings of work. He gave up 41 hits and issued 12 bases on balls while striking out 21.
General Manager Gordon Guess said Thomas, because of arm troubles, told the team he would be able to throw no more than 30 pitches per outing. The limitations led the club to go elsewhere for pitching help.
