Marion's first home run of the 2009 season came early off the bat of designated hitter Drew Williams to give the Bobcats an early lead, but a grand slam off Bobcat reliever Jason Long by Bulls slugger Kody Campbell sent Marion to its league-high 10th loss of the season.
Starter Ryan Rogers pitched well enough to win for Marion in five innings of work, leaving with a 5-3 lead, but the bullpen fell apart in the seventh, allowing five runs off relievers Paul Chiampa and Long. Chiampa (0-1), who loaded the bases to start the inning before Long came in, took the loss.
In the field, the Bobcats also added five errors on the night.
On offense, Marion scored seven runs on only five hits – Williams' two-run shot down the left field line and an RBI double by Rob Dyer. Wednesday, a make-up game from a rainout the day before, is the third consecutive game Dyer has contributed a run-scoring double.
