Cleveringa released

Brett Cleveringa, a left-handed first baseman, was given his release Monday after a 4-1 loss to Fulton.

Cleveringa, a 20-year-old from Arden Hills, Mich., was batting .077, with only one hit and seven strike-outs in 13 plate appearances. His lone hit was a single. He had also made two errors in the field in five games.
This was Cleveringa's first year with the team, but he plays college ball at Upper Iowa University with Marion outfielder Mitch McClay, a two-year veteran of the Bobcats.
Manager Steve Fowler is hoping to add another pitcher to take Cleveringa's roster spot.
