Due to unexpected circumstances, the KIT League has reverted back to six teams, down two from the eight teams proposed for the 2009 baseball season. Because of the change, there will also not be two divisions. In fact, the league will operate as it did 2008 with six teams on a 50-game schedule followed by post-season playoffs.
The league teams for 2009 are the Marion Bobcats, Owensboro Oilers, Tradewater Pirates, Fulton Railroaders, Union City Greyhounds and Sikeston Bulls, who return to the league after a year off, replacing the Farmington Firebirds. The West Kentucky Mavericks, a traveling team proposed to have been based in Mayfield, will not participate in 2009 action.
League commissioner Randy Morgan, on kitleaguebaseball.com, expressed regret the two teams will not be playing this year. He continues to work with both teams and others to expand the league, but with less than a month before opening day of the season, the remaining six teams are working hard and will be ready to play. A new schedule is currently in works and will be posted shortly.
The 2009 season will begin May 29.
Another change this season is an increase of two players for each team's roster, for a total of 24 players each.
